Skill Toys Add Play to Community Festivals

This fall, Flow Circus had the opportunity to set up Skill Toy Play Stations at several community events to engage families in play. Kids of all ages challenged themselves with new toys or rediscovered toys from their youth.

The first event was Raleigh's SPARKcon - a 4 day event showcasing the creativity, talent, and ideas of "The Creative Hub of the South." This event consists of a "creative potluck" of SPARKs or creative themes such as art, music, fashion, etc. Flow Circus, of course, participated in the circusSPARK. We set up a tub of toys in the middle of Fayetteville Street and had people playing amid blocks of beautifully painted street murals, music, and craft booths. An amazing event!

In October, Flow Circus then brought the Skill Toy Play Station to the Fox 50 Family Fest. This family friendly event drew over 4500 people to the lawn of the American Tobacco District in downtown Durham. Children, parents, and grandparents all tried their hands at spinning plates, jitter rings, flower sticks, and more.

Lastly, Wake Forest Unplugged encouraged families in our own community to unplug from their televisions, computers, phones, and video games for a weekend and engage in healthier and more active pursuits. The weekend culminated on Sunday with games and a free concert at Joyner Park. Juggling and skill toys are perfect "unplugged" activities so we offered be part of the event and teach new skills to people in our community including our mayor! The photos below ran in the Wake Weekly after the event:
