Greetings from Flow Circus: March Madness is upon us! For some of you that may mean hours of watching NCAA basketball and for others (including us) it means gearing up for summer camps, summer reading programs, and other summer fun. The month kicks off with Read Across America on March 2nd which celebrates the birthday of one of our favorite authors/illustrators - Dr. Seuss. One of the best comments Paul ever got after a show was that he was like the Cat in the Hat. Re-read it and you will understand.

Paul will be performing Read Yourself Silly on Tuesday night at Hobbton Elementary School's Dr. Seuss Pajama Party - how fun does that sound?! The rest of the month is filled with school shows, showcases, and teaching professional development workshops. March also marks our second annual library giveaway where one lucky library will win a Flow Circus Skill Toy Kit. See the next newsletter entry for more information and share it with all the librarians you know.

Whatever madness this month brings, be well. Hopefully it starts to feel like spring no matter where you live.

Playfully yours,
Paul & Dawn

2011 Library Giveaway - Skill Toy Kit: Flow Circus is at it again! Last spring we donated Twist & Earn fund raising tote bags to several libraries to provide a creative and playful fund raising method for their teen groups. Due to the strong response, we decided to offer another giveaway this year that will provide hours of engaging programming for Summer Reading Programs and throughout the school year.

During the month of March, visit http://www.flowcircus.com/giveaway to enter for a chance to win a Flow Circus Skill Toy Kit which includes 20 skill toys, instructional materials, and a program guide (retail value of the kit is $475). Tweens and teens will love learning new skills as they master these props that have rich histories dating back thousands of years.

More information about the Skill Toy Kit can be found on the Giveaway page. The winner will be announced April 1st. Feel free to email Dawn if you have any questions. Please help spread the word to other public and school librarians.

New Skill Toy and Juggling Kits: Based on several years of running the Skill Toy Program at camps, afterschool programs, and libraries, we have redesigned the program to better fit your needs. Flow Circus now offers Skill Toy Kits and Juggling Kits to help you start and maintain a skill based club at your organization. Whether you are looking to attract new tweens/teens, engage the "bored" kids that have been coming for years, or just want to create meaningful experiences for them that they will associate with your organization, starting a club will help you achieve these goals.

Juggling and Skill Toy Clubs appeal to tweens/teens because they are novel, social, challenging, and provide stress relief (yes, even teens have stress!). The clubs tend to be gender and "clique-neutral" with aspects that appeal to all types of kids. The kits provide you with the props, instructional materials, and a program guide with activity ideas to help your program become a huge success. Kick-off your club with hands-on Flow Circus workshops or use the instructional videos created by us to get your group started.

For more information on the kit contents, click on the fliers below or visit the Juggling & Skill Toy Club Page of our website.

Fundama Workshops: During our February tour, we had the opportunity to conduct Fundama workshops for librarians in 3 different regions of Pennsylvania and the Southeastern Roundtable in Connecticut. We enjoyed introducing the groups to the Japanese kendama and related toys from around the world. After playing with the toys, the librarians got to work making their own versions with paper cups, string, and tape. They then brainstormed creative ways to incorporate Fundama into their programs. Visit playfundama.com to see the list of programming ideas. Or visit our Photo Gallery to view pictures of the librarians in action.

We have additional workshops scheduled in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New York in the upcoming months so check back to see what new ideas these groups come up with. If your state or region hosts SRP workshops for librarians contact us to see if we can schedule a session. The workshop can be adapted for school, afterschool, or camp staff as well. Contact Dawn at dawn@flowcircus.com or (919)604-3462 to check availability.

National Library Week - Video Contest: The American Library Association is sponsoring a National Library Week video contest. Teens can win money for their library by creating a 1-3 minute video based on the theme: Why I Need My Library. The deadline is April 18th and more information can be found on the contest website. If you have had a Flow Circus workshop at your library, think about having teens incorporate the new skills they have learned in order to make a video that will stand out from the crowd.

More resources for National Library Week (April 10-16) can be found on the ALA website.
